ABOUT AFRICA FUTURA WILDLIFE RESTORATION LDA

Africa Futura Wildlife Restoration Lda is a Mozambican-registered company, operating in Coutada 5 in southern Sofala province (refer to the map). The company is primarily, as the name says, involved with the restoration of the depleted wildlife of Coutada 5.

The principals of the Coutada are Urs and Oliver Wettstein, two Swiss businessmen with a long involvement in wildlife ranching in South Africa, and more recently also in northern Mozambique in Niassa province. In developing Coutada 5 they are assisted by a number of South African and Mozambican specialists. The Management Committee, who is responsible for the day-to-day operations and planning of the Coutada, currently consists of Fritz van Zyl (South African), Pedro Nhampossa (Mozambican), and Prof Dr PC du Plessis and Mr AvW Lambrechts (both South Africans). They are assisted by Dr NHG Jacobsen, a biodiversity specialist based in South Africa.

Piet du Plessis (65 years) holds a PhD in the economics of wildlife ranching. He is a retired professor in Management Accounting at the University of South Africa, with more than 40 years of direct and indirect involvement in the wildlife industry in South Africa. He is regarded as a world-leading expert in wildlife ranching. As a resource economist concentrating on wildlife-based matters, he undertook various surveys and consultancy projects in a number of southern African countries, including Mozambique.

Arend (Lampies) Lambrechts (70 years) holds a Masters degree in Nature Conservation, obtained from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. He retired as Director of Nature Conservation for the then Transvaal province in South Africa in 1995. Since then he undertook numerous consultancy projects in South Africa, Lesotho, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Switzerland, Ukraine and quite a number in Mozambique. He has extensive experience, spanning almost 45 years, in the planning, development, management and sustainable utilization of protected areas. He was involved with consultancy projects sponsored by the World Bank, the Global Environment Facility and the IUCN, primarily in Africa but also in Europe. He serves as the Chairman of the Management Committee for Coutada 5.
